Starting with data

Root-cause care is a phrase that means very little without testing behind it. At the Del Mar clinic it begins with comprehensive lab work — metabolic and lipid panels, inflammatory markers, thyroid function beyond a single TSH value, and hormone measurement where the history warrants it.

Results are reviewed with you rather than summarised at you. Knowing what your own numbers mean is the difference between following a protocol and understanding one.

What the practice covers

  • Comprehensive lab testing and interpretation
  • Comprehensive medical consults
  • Endocrine evaluation and bioidentical hormone replacement
  • Preventative wellness programs
  • Physical medicine — osteopathic manipulative treatment, muscle energy technique, myofascial release

On hormone replacement

Bioidentical hormone replacement is prescribed only where testing and clinical evaluation support it, and it is reviewed on an ongoing basis rather than set and forgotten. It is not appropriate for everyone, and the decision belongs to you and your provider together after the relevant risks have been discussed.

As an emergency physician, I noticed that most of the people who came into the emergency department were there because of either a lack of information or difficult lifestyle choices. I couldn’t change people’s choices, but I could help those who simply hadn’t been taught how to care for themselves — so I started a clinic built around teaching people how to be healthy. In 2011, I attended my first regenerative medicine seminar. I followed the field for several years, attended more seminars, and in 2017 began offering regenerative therapy in my clinic. Education has always been at the heart of my work, and I believe deeply in what we do. I’m always glad to sit down with a patient, answer questions honestly, and talk through whether our approach might be right for them.
